Biography

As the Senior Research Physician, Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, I am the Clinical Trials Director of Artificial Pancreas Studies at our center in Santa Barbara, California. These include NIH, JDRF and industry funded trials, including collaborative studies with numerous partner sites around the world. Our research trials focus on automated exercise detection and treatment in people with diabetes, improving the quality of continuous glucose monitoring devices, testing of algorithms used in the Artificial Pancreas, automated clinical decision support for diabetes, and using all of these technologies to advance the state of closed-loop insulin delivery. I provide clinical input into the design and implementation of Artificial Pancreas devices to improve efficacy and safety, and run all trials related to such devices at our center.

As I am board certified in Clinical Informatics, Pediatric Endocrinology and General Pediatrics, I aim to use my skills in technology and medicine to promote cross-disciplinary scientific advancement in developing advanced technological care for persons with diabetes.
