All JKSA knowledge advancement and assessment resources are both created and maintained by specialty-specific clinicians with tri-service representation.
All resources are peer-reviewed with reference details provided. The knowledge exams for all courses are case-based to encourage reasoning, judgment, and decision-making within the specialty expeditionary scope of practice.
Questions address clinical, surgical, and operational requirements. Each exam is monitored by a psychometrician to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and fairness of test outcomes.
The JKSA program specifies that individuals should complete the exam for their specialty every three years; however, any active duty or reserve clinician may access the knowledge advancement resources or take any JKSA knowledge exams at any time.
Course Structure
JKSA knowledge advancement and assessment courses are available on-demand and facilitated using online course resources, with a culminating exam administered through a third-party testing services (Internet Testing Service, ITS). Course resources are provided as links to websites, PDF articles, media, and clinical practice guidelines. All course content is organized by the specific expeditionary domains for each specialty. Course Exams
Exams are composed of 200 multiple-choice questions that align with each specialty’s expeditionary scope of practice. Total exam time is 6 hours, which can be completed in multiple sessions to accommodate your schedule. Specifically, the exam may be taken during a single, dedicated session, or in multiple sessions of varying duration. The timer is in the upper left-hand corner of the testing window. If you are unable to isolate an uninterrupted time block for the examination there is “Pause” function located in the lower left-hand corner of the screen that will stop the timer.
Make sure to “Pause” the exam when you want a break!
Score Reports
Course participants will receive individual score reports from ITS immediately after exam completion. The score reports will identify any performance gaps and links to any missed questions to reconsider incorrect responses. It is recommended that course participants SAVE the score report as a PDF for your records! All assessment outcomes are confidential and have no bearing on credentials, promotions, etc. Only successful course completions (no scores) are reported to the JKSA PMO for individual readiness dashboards on a quarterly basis. Aggregate assessment scores for all specialties are reported to the JKSA PMO annually.
