DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY
Students rotating in Diagnostic Radiology have the opportunity to work with world renowned instructors from the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology, present cases to the department, create posters for display in local and national competitions, and interpret imaging studies and create radiology reports.
This rotation is designed to provide medical students and interns with radiology experience in MTFs. Daily activities will vary slightly by site but typically will consist of didactic and clinical conferences and lectures, daily medical imaging interpreted by diagnostic radiologists, tumor boards, and multidisciplinary conferences.

INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY
Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty of radiology in which imaging is used to guide minimally invasive procedures using needles and catheters for diagnosis and treatment. Students will perform histories and physicals on patients, develop a plan of care with the attending, participate in the procedure as appropriate for difficulty/skill level, and evaluate patients in follow-up.

RADIOLOGY RESEARCH
A local (USU) rotation is available in Radiology Research in Radiologic-Pathologic Correlation. Students view interesting imaging cases submitted by radiology residents attending the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology’s 4-week course as “unknown” and present them to the attending radiologist as a resident would. The students provide appropriate differential diagnoses with the guidance of the attending. Students also present the cases to pathologists for radiologic-pathologic correlation conferences in which radiologic images and gross images and glass or virtual slides are reviewed and radiologic and pathologic findings and differentials are correlated.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY
Radiation Oncology is a fascinating and dynamic field requiring the integration of a practitioner's knowledge of physics, biology, anatomy, imaging, and medicine in delivering optimal treatment for cancer patients, often as a part of a multidisciplinary team. During this rotation students learn the appropriate diagnostic evaluation, staging, and prognosis of the various major cancers that are treated with radiation therapy and the appropriate indications and use of radiation therapy in the curative and palliative setting for the common cancer types. Students also learn about early and late side effect and risk profiles and the basic concepts of radiation biology. Students participate in patient evaluation in the clinic and develop a plan of care with the attending, following at least one patient per week through simulation and treatment. Students also attend teaching conferences and multidisciplinary tumor boards.
