CLERKSHIPS IN DERMATOLOGY
Students may complete a 4-week clinical rotation at WRNMMC or other military locations, where they work with dermatologists and dermatology to provide all aspects of dermatologic care to patients. They gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of dermatologic disorders and perform many basic procedures, including skin biopsies and cryotherapy as well as assist in surgical procedures. Many student rotators also have the opportunity to work closely with the Mohs Micrographic Surgery (MMS) teams and staff dermatopathologists. The dermatology clinical rotation is very interactive and can be tailored to each individual student’s interests.
The clinical rotations include a Dermatology Selective and a Dermatology Elective. The Dermatology Selective occurs in the middle third of medical school during the clerkship period. The Dermatology Elective takes place in the final third of medical school during the post-clerkship period. Students interested in Dermatology can schedule rotations at various sites. The most common sites include WRNMMC, San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC), and Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). These sites all have Student Coordinators who will assist you in scheduling your rotation.
