CLERKSHIPS IN SURGERY

The Department of Surgery offers both elective and sub internship advanced clinical rotations. The Department of Surgery has established advanced clinical rotations in General Surgery (including subspecialty experiences in cardiothoracic, vascular, transplant, pediatric, trauma, burn, and critical care), Plastic Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopedic Surgery (including Orthopedic Sports), Neurosurgery and Urology. These opportunities are available routinely across 20 different military treatment facilities across the country as well as overseas. Expanding the opportunities for exposure to trauma and critical care, the Department of Surgery maintains close affiliations with both Washington Hospital Center and the University of Maryland Baltimore Shock Trauma Center, offering students advanced clerkship opportunities in trauma, burns and surgical critical care.

In addition to the established clinical rotations, post clerkship students have the opportunity to pursue research opportunities and Capstone projects through the Department of Surgery, including, but not limited to, the Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i) program, the Center for Prostate Disease Research, or Regenerative Medicine at the Naval Medical Research Center.
