PREVENTIVE MEDICINE AND BIOSTATISTICS CURRICULUM
We offer an array of in-person accredited professional and academic degrees as well as a number of unique educational programs that serve a broad array of interested students. All of our degree programs are taught in person on the USUHS campus in Bethesda, MD.

In addition to these formal degree programs, the PMB Department is home to and supports a number of unique training opportunities and certificate programs for public health professionals at every level.
Certificate Programs
- Graduate Certificate in Global Health and Global Health Engagement: this is an 18-credit graduate certificate program that is offered via distance learning to members of the U.S. armed forces, Public Health Service, select partner-nation military members and select U.S. government employees. - The American Society of Tropical Medicine Certification course in Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health: This 12 week full-time training program fulfills the didactic eligibility requirements for licensed clinical providers to take the ASTMH Certificate of Knowledge Examination. Employing comprehensive lectures, seminars, laboratories, and case-based curriculum, the training employs graduate level courses in public health, tropical medicine and hygiene with a robust, field experienced faculty. Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics & Information Sciences: The Health Informatics and Information Sciences (HIIS) Distance Learning Certificate Program aims to expand upon the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) mission of providing high-quality education to Military Service Members and civilian healthcare professionals in the Military Health System (MHS) and the Department of War (DoW) to support the medical readiness of America's Warfighters. - Graduate Certificate in Operational & Aviation Medicine: The USU Graduate Certificate Program in Operational & Aviation Medicine aims to expand upon the USU mission of providing high-quality, military-relevant education to healthcare professionals in the Military Health System (MHS) and supporting the readiness of America’s Warfighters. This program equips students with the skills to assess and manage the health and safety of military aircrew, patients, and passengers, contributing to overall safety and well-being within the complex and dynamic military aviation environment. Training Programs

MedXellence: brings executive problem solving skills to tri-Service, interprofessional providers across the Military Health System and the planet five times per year. This year the program will take place in Honolulu, Bethesda, Langley AFB, Garmisch, and Okinawa. Approximately 250 learners annually. Learn More >
- Navy Occupational and Environmental Medicine Fundamentals Course: (1 week) co-developed with NMCPHC runs twice yearly. Approximately 70 learners annually.
- Navy Occupational Health Nurse Fundamentals Course: (1 week) Approximately 35 learners annually.

Military Tropical Medicine (MTM): This tri-Service 4 week summer course taught at USU is primarily staffed by Tropical Public Health teaching faculty. The intent of this course it to prepare DoW healthcare providers for force health protection in tropical and subtropical regions. The course include didactic lectures, laboratories, and simulated patients. Approximately75-100 learners annually. Learn More >
- Tropical Medicine Training Program: The objective of this annually executed program is to improve preparedness of uniformed services medical personnel to face tropical infectious disease challenges and to perform research or disease surveillance in an international setting. Participants spend 4-8 weeks at one of the DoW overseas medical research laboratories or other overseas setting working closely with a clinical or research mentor. Activities typically include hands-on experience, often in remote locations, in the fields of clinical tropical medicine, entomology, public health, and/or research. - The State Department Parasitology Course: an annual three day intensive refresher course on the parasitic causes of tropical and global disease. This course, offered to US State Department Medical Officers, is executed entirely within the Division of Tropical Public Health. It includes both a substantial didactic component as well as opportunities to practice diagnostic techniques and become familiar with the appearance of parasite material from blood and O&P examinations. Approximately 10 learners annually.
