BRAIN INJURY

Dr. McCabe and colleagues focus on preclinical modeling of traumatic brain injury (TBI). A number of mouse and rat injury models are employed, including the USU Preclinical Behavior and Modeling Core’s Advanced Blast Simulator,  the Closed-Head Impact Model of Engineered Rotational Acceleration (CHIMERA), controlled cortical impact, and concussive brain injury. Function (behavioral) and biological effects, including aging effects and tau pathology and neurodegenerative disease in transgenic rodents, are studied with these injury models, with the goal of understanding mechanisms and the utility of treatments that can be translated to the care of our Service members.
