Biography

In 1995, I completed secondary school in Mobile, AL and I transitioned to the University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from UA, 2002. Wanting to enter the community of caregivers, I became a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) in 2004 graduating valedictorian at Blue Cliff College of Medical Massage Therapy (Blue Cliff) in Mobile, AL. After graduation, while working at Blue Cliff as an LMT and Assistant Instructor, I learned about Air Force Pararescue. After a successful enlistment in the US California Air National Guard (ANG) 131st Rescue Squadron at Moffett FAF, CA, I entered the Pararescuman (PJ) training “pipeline”. I attended Basic Military Training, Airborne parachutist training, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape school, Water Survival training, Combat Dive school, High Altitude Low Opening “Free-Fall” parachutist training, EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, and the PJ Apprentice course graduating in 2008. Being a US Special Operation Command Advanced Tactical Provider, I enabled civil search and rescue (SAR) at the state and national level, worldwide SAR coverage for NASA space shuttle missions, and Combat SAR coverage when deployed to the Horn of Africa.

As I finished my enlistment in the ANG I returned to college as a pre-Physical Therapy (PT) student and applied my Community College of the Air Force credits to an Associate of Science in Emergency Medicine from Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell in 2010. After leaving the ANG, I came to Alabama State University (ASU), Montgomery, AL. I was President of the 2015 Clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) class and a Graduate Teaching Assistant tasked with tutoring and remediating junior members of the DPT professional program. Immediately after graduating and passing my boards I honed my skills as a staff PT at PT Solutions, a high volume outpatient PT clinic in Montgomery, AL. I later served as Coordinator of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services in the Center for Advanced Therapy at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, AL. There I supervised licensed Speech, Occupational and PT personnel, as well as technicians in the performance of their duties. As a Clinical Instructor (CI) there I instructed Doctoral students on their 1st and 2nd year clinical internships. All along, compassionate care for patients, students, and colleagues has been the hallmark of my career

I am now, since Dec. 2017, positioned as a Research PT contractor for the Henry Jackson Foundation within the Center for the Intrepid (CFI) on Brooke Army Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio, TX. Here, I am poised to facilitate US Force Readiness through teaching and the pursuit of rigorous scientific inquiry into Military Rehabilitation Medicine. At the CFI, I research methods and aspects of rehabilitation and disseminate that knowledge to the next generation of providers. Also, as an Assistant Professor in the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, I’m permitted to bring to bear my professional experience as a PT, CI, prior LMT, and USAF PJ to advance knowledge and proficiency. It’s my pleasure to pair this experience with drive to add to the rehabilitation body of knowledge personally, and by equipping future medical professionals. Together we contribute to the health of those currently, and formerly, serving in the Profession of Arms.
