Biography

Traci Carter, MA RN CDCES, is currently the pediatric diabetes nurse educator at Walter Reed NMMC and Alexander T. Augusta Medical Center. She started as a medical-surgical nurse in the USAF and recognized the role diabetes education played in the prevention of long-term complications. This interest in diabetes care led to outpatient diabetes education positions at Naval Health Clinic Quantico and Inova Health Systems. She obtained her specialty certification in diabetes education in 2005. Then, in 2014, she accepted the pediatric position at Walter Reed NMMC working with pediatric endocrinologists, fellows, and the USU students.

President of the Capitol Association of Diabetes Educators for 2009 and served as a Board Member from 2006 to 2010.

Virginia Diabetes Council workgroup member of Diabetes in Schools Committee. Led initial grant funding of diabetes education in Virginia schools.

“Diabetes Educator of the Year” for the Capitol Region of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) in 2009
