Biography

CAPT Erich J. Dietrich was born in Green Bay, WI and grew up in Aurora, CO. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Business Administration from the University of Colorado. In addition, he holds a Master in Manpower Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. In 2013, He earned his PhD in Public Administration and Policy Analysis from American University, Washington D.C.

He served as a Hospital Corpsman and Surgical Technician on active duty from 1990-1994 and in the Navy Reserve through 1997. He worked as a Surgical Assistant in various hospitals and healthcare systems through 2002. He was commissioned as a Medical Service Corps Healthcare Administrator in 2002 and reported to Naval Hospital Bremerton as Department Head of Hospital Operations and the Manpower/Personnel Department. During this time, he deployed with Fleet Hospital EIGHT in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned as the Medical Service Corps Personnel Planner from 2007-2010. He later went on to serve at the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) as the Director of M13 (Personnel Plans and Policy).

In 2015, he joined the faculty at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD serving as
the Director of the Master of Health Administration and Policy (MHAP) program, securing the initial program accreditation for the MHAP. In 2019, he was assigned as the Legislative Liaison for Navy Medicine serving in the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs, Pentagon. Additionally, he was selected as the interim Deputy Director of Legislation for the Navy through the COVID-19 Pandemic. In 2022, he was selected as the Director for Manpower/Personnel (N1) at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Falls Church, VA. He currently serves as the Director of Government Affairs and University Advancement at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences
in Bethesda, MD.

CAPT Dietrich is board certified in Healthcare Administration and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare
Executives. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service
Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), and Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).

Career Highlights: Positions, Projects, Deployments, Awards and Additional Publications

Commissioned and managed a comprehensive review of retention of MHS physicians, including a complex financial analysis of civilian to military pay gaps.

Designed and implemented a multi-million dollar enterprise wide job satisfaction survey for Navy Medicine personnel.

Served as Deputy Director, Personnel Policy, Plans and Strategic Compensation, U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) Falls Church, VA 2013-1015
