Biography

CAPT Wendy Schofer graduated from MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 2001 (AOA), and proudly completed pediatric internship and residency at NMC San Diego (2004), where she was the Housestaff Teacher of the Year in 2003. She completed her first staff pediatrician tour at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton where she was the GME Coordinator for Family Practice Residents in Pediatrics, as well as Medical Director of the Special Care Nursery and Newborn Screening Coordinator until 2006. She deployed in support of Operation Unified Assistance II (2005), providing humanitarian relief/disaster assistance to the people of Nias, Indonesia. At Naval Hospital Okinawa, she was the Medical Director of the Postpartum Unit and Branch Medical Clinic Augmentation Team Leader (2006-2008).
Upon transition to the Reserves in 2009, CAPT Schofer was the Credentials Officer for OHSU Portsmouth (2010-2012). She subsequently became the Assistant Surgeon for 4th Medical Logistics Group, Group Aid Station Headquarters, Marietta, GA (2013) and Officer in Charge of Detachment for 4th MLG Surgical Company Bravo, Anacostia, DC (2014). In January 2015, CAPT Schofer transitioned to the Individual Ready Reserve, whereby she regularly taught Pediatric Advanced Life Support at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and served as the PALS Program Director from 2015-2018.

In her civilian career, CAPT Schofer has taught residents and medical students in the NMCP Pediatrics Clinic and Newborn Nursery. She was the Community Pediatrics Rotation Director at NMCP from 2012-2014. Most recently, she worked as a community pediatrician at the TriCare Prime Clinic Chesapeake. CAPT Schofer is the volunteer Co-Chair of the Healthy Chesapeake Coalition, the local community nonprofit charged with population health management for the City of Chesapeake, VA. In this capacity she combines her passion for healthy living, medical knowledge, and organizational leadership to be able to affect positive change for the community.

CAPT Schofer's personal interests are in general pediatrics, child behavior, nutrition, fitness, oral health, holistic medicine and organizational leadership. She enjoys working with community members as a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer and is also a Registered Yoga Teacher, 200 hour.
