Biography

I have was born and raised in Central Pennsylvania before leaving to complete my education and a 22 year career in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. Most of my career was spent alternating between San Antonio, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic Region. I have been a billeted faculty member at USU for over 15 years. The most satisfying part of my job is working with learners at all levels. The USU community is a unique place in the military health system due to the robust environment of professional development. The best aspect of my career as a academic physician was my 10 years as the fellowship director in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. The satisfaction of seeing our talented graduates succeed in their own careers is unmatched. I have been active in research throughout my career. The most recent focus has been working in the areas of respiratory diseases to include COVID-19. Much of this experience includes working with young students and physicians as they begin to explore academic medicine. Furthermore, I worked in the area of research administration as the chair of the DoD's only combined institutional review board. I have also been active in advocating for military children and pediatricians. I have worked extensively with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Uniformed Services, to try to represent the needs of military families in the Nation's preeminent pediatric organization. Finally, I have been an active member of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and presently sit on their Programs and Meetings committee.
