Biography
James J. Contestable, MD is the head of the Dermatology and Laser Clinic at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune. He is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and active-duty Naval Officer. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida and his M.D. at the Uniformed Services University where he received the Navy Surgeon Generals award and was a first-class AOA (Alpha Omega Alpha) selectee.Dr. Contestable served onboard three US Navy aircraft carriers during deployments at sea as a flight surgeon and aeromedical evacuation specialist. During his tour, he was selected as the Flight Surgeon of the year for the Pacific Command. He completed his residency in Dermatology at Naval Medical Center San Diego where he served at the House Staff Council President for the entire campus. He currently serves as a member of the Dermatology In-Review Advisory Council and reviewer for three medical journals. Dr. Contestable volunteers weekly for The Addis Clinic providing pro bono virtual care for underserved patients in Africa. He enjoys teaching residents, PA students, and medical students daily in his clinic where future providers are educated in the treatment of skin disease. Dr. Contestable treats skin conditions in all ages and has a special interest in scar revision and rehabilitation. He has published a number of articles and textbook chapters addressing subjects such as contact dermatitis, lupus, autoimmune blistering disease, laser treatments, scars, etc.
Dr. Contestable is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. Dr. Contestable’s memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the North Carolina Dermatology Association.
