Biography
Dr. Alexis Nelson is a Staff Neurologist and Neurophysiologist at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. She first commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2004 and served as an active duty engineer for 3 years at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson AFB before attending medical school via HPSP. She earned her doctor of medicine degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA in 2011 and went on to complete her internship and neurology residency training at Brooke Army Medical Center/SAUSHEC in 2015. She then completed a Neurophysiology Fellowship at Penn State Hershey, PA in 2016. Dr. Nelson spent 3 years as a staff neurologist, clinic chief, and element lead at the 673rd Medical Group at JBER, AK. In 2019, she returned to SAUSHEC to serve as the Associate Program Director of the Neurology Residency, and has been the Program Director since 2021. Dr. Nelson also serves as the Neurology Consultant to the AF Surgeon General.Dr. Nelson holds appointments as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Uniformed Services University and as an Adjoint Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Long School of Medicine at University of Texas San Antonio. She enjoys teaching -- especially neurophysiology-related topics-- and is proud to be able to contribute to the future of military neurology.
