Biography
Ian A. Prudhomme, MD, MS, FCAP, is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist and Lieutenant Colonel (select) in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. He currently serves as an AP/CP pathologist and Medical Director within the Defense Health Agency at Eglin Air Force Base, where he oversees laboratory operations serving more than 100,000 beneficiaries and directs multidisciplinary teams across geographically separated military treatment facilities.Dr. Prudhomme earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC), Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). He also holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology and holds medical licensure in Florida, Nebraska and through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact.
Clinically, Dr. Prudhomme practices general surgical and clinical pathology with particular expertise in dermatopathology. He has been selected for a Cleveland Clinic Dermatopathology Fellowship beginning in 2027.
In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Prudhomme serves as Course Medical Director for the Eglin AFB Hospital Laboratory Phase II Training Program and as a USUHS Assistant Professor and small-group preceptor. He previously served as Chief of Residency Academics at SAUSHEC, where he redesigned the pathology curriculum using principles of cognitive science to enhance resident learning and retention.
Dr. Prudhomme’s academic interests include dermatopathology, molecular pathology, medical education, digital pathology, and artificial intelligence in diagnostic medicine. He serves as a Senior Domain Expert in Pathology AI Training for several private companies, contributes as a question writer for the American Board of Pathology CertLink program and also contributes to the UWorld USMLE qbank. His work reflects a commitment to advancing diagnostic accuracy, leveraging emerging technologies, and training the next generation of military physicians.
