Biography
Lieutenant Commander Sajeewane Manjula Seales, MD, grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland – College Park with a BS in Neurobiology and BA in English in 2006. She graduated from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a Masters of Public Health degree in 2009. She commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in 2010 and graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) with an MD in 2014. She completed a four-year length of training Family Medicine residency at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville. From 2018-2021, she served as a board-certified full scope Family Medicine physician and Senior Medical Officer at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) on Joint Expeditionary Base – Little Creek. She deployed on the mission Enduring Promise in 2018 on the USNS COMFORT and was the Graduate Medical Education representative was the only dedicated Women’s Health physician. She has been actively pursuing a teaching career since residency and completed the Faculty Development Resident Fellowship at USU in 2017. She was NMCP Transitional Year Internship Family Medicine faculty and in 2019, attained Assistant Professorship from USU. In June 2021 she joined the USU Family Medicine Department and is the Assistant Clerkship Director for all core and advanced Family Medicine clerkships. She is pursuing a fellowship in the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Medical Student Educators Development Institute. In her spare time, she successfully organized and ran the first virtual USAFP annual conference as Program Chair in 2021 and is currently a Navy Director on the USAFP Board. She was competitively selected for and completed the Military Health System Female Physician Leadership Course and through scholarship, mentorship, and teaching, hopes to sponsor future leaders in Navy Medicine.Representative Bibliography
