Welcome to Graduate Admissions at USU School of Medicine
This information is for individuals interested in full-time in-person graduate degree programs at USU. Instructions for graduate certificates and online programs will be posted when applications open in September 2026.
1. Welcome & Overview
- Welcome to Graduate Admissions at the USU School of Medicine! Our mission is to drive scientific innovation by creating a pipeline of military and civilian clinicians, scientists and leaders dedicated to mission-driven research, force readiness, and safeguarding the health of the United States.

- USU gives careful consideration to all available information about each applicant and selects students on a competitive basis without regard to race, color, sex, creed, or national origin.
- There is no application fee and no tuition.
2. Conditions for Applying
- Applicants must be US citizens.
- Each applicant must complete a baccalaureate degree program from an accredited academic institution before matriculation at USU.

3. The 3-Part Admissions Process
- Please Note: Access to certain Google documents linked from this site may be restricted on government computers. You may need to use a personal device to open these links. To submit required documents in Part 3, all applicants must use a Google account.
- If you do not have a Google account, instructions below provide an option to create a Google account linked to your existing, non-Gmail email address:
- Go to the Google Account Sign-up page.
- Enter your basic information and click ‘Next.’
- When prompted to choose an email, click ‘Use your existing email instead’ Type in your current email address and click ‘Next.’
- Check that email inbox for a verification code sent by Google, enter it on the screen, and follow the remaining prompts to create your password.
- Part 1: Basic Demographics
- Complete the initial online application to gather demographics and register with the USU Registrar.
- If you do not receive your student ID within 2-3 business days, please check your spam folder and then contact universityadmissions@usuhs.edu.
- Allow 1-2 business days after submitting Part 1 to receive your Student ID via email. This ID is required to complete Parts 2 and 3 of the application.
- Part 2: Supplemental Information
- Complete the required Google Form to provide supplemental program information.
- Part 3: Supporting Documents
- You must be logged into your Google or Google-linked account in order to submit this form.
- Complete the required Google Form to upload required documents.
- Applicants must complete Part 1 and Part 2 before finalizing their application in Part 3.
- Be sure to input the same Email Address and Student ID assigned to you each time you submit documents.
- Required for all applicants: A Statement of Purpose and a complete Curriculum Vitae or Resume (please remove your street address).
- All documents do not have to be uploaded in one submission; multiple submissions can be made as documents are ready.
- If you are unable to upload supporting documents in Part 3, please contact UniversityAdmissions@usuhs.edu for assistance.
4. Official Documents & Test Scores
- Official Transcripts & Letters of Recommendation:
- Three letters of recommendation must be submitted directly from the recommender to USU. USU’s Registrar will contact references listed on your application with instructions. Please let your references know to expect this email.
- Direct all Official Transcripts to the USU Registrar at UniversityAdmissions@usuhs.edu.
- Electronic transcripts are only accepted from a secure site formally linked from the sending institution (schools located in the United States only).
- GRE Requirements:
- The GRE is required only for those applying to the Medical & Clinical Psychology Graduate Programs. Test scores from within the last 5 years will be accepted.
- For all other applicants, the GRE is optional for the 2026-2027 admissions cycle. To submit optional scores, the test must have been taken within three years.
- USU's school code for the GRE is 5824.
5. Application Deadlines
- November 1: PhD in Medical Psychology & PhD in Clinical Psychology.
- December 1: Most PhD and Master’s Programs.
- Health Professions Education Programs: Applications accepted in rolling rounds. Check here for applications that are currently open.
6. MD/PhD Admissions Process
- Applicants interested in the MD/PhD program must apply to both programs.
- Apply directly to the School of Medicine using the AMCAS application (indicating interest in the MD/PhD program) and submit a separate PhD program application using the process outlined on this page.

7. Questions & Support
- Information about specific graduate programs can be found through the links on our Programs website.

- Once you have submitted Part 1 of your application, you will be contacted periodically about the status of your package and notified when all documents are received and the application is complete. You may check on the status of your documents or ask questions about the application process by calling 301-400-4101 or emailing universityadmissions@usuhs.edu.
