Biography

Dr. Chandel is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, ME where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematical Sciences in 2012. He then began his U.S. Army career after receiving the Army Health Professions Scholarship while attending medical school at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, NJ. After completing medical school, he was assigned to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) where he completed residency in Internal Medicine in 2019 and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in 2022. He subsequently attended Pennsylvania State University where he was awarded a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics in 2024.

After medical training he was assigned to WRNMMC where he served as the Deputy and then Acting Chief of the Department of Research Programs from 2022-2024. Additionally, he served in Operation Spartan Shield as a Critical Care Medicine officer with the 528th Hospital Center at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. He then returned to WRNMMC where he continues to serve as the Assistant Program Director for the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship and the Uniformed Services University Internal Medicine Clerkship Site Director.

Dr. Chandel is a graduate of the AMEDD Officer Basic, Combat Casualty Care, Medical Management of Biologic and Chemical Casualties, and Captains Career courses. He is board certified in Internal, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine. He serves as an Editor and the Director of Publishing of the Researcher’s Journal of Internal Medicine and has published over 50 peer reviewed research articles and abstracts. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University and Georgetown University School of Medicine. He has received the Society of Critical Care Medicine Star Research Achievement Award (2020), Roberts A. Phillips Clinical Research Award (2021), Jay P. Sanford Travel Grant (2021), Major General Lewis A. Mologne Award (2022), and the American College of Physicians Military Treatment Facility Teacher of the Year (2022).
