Biography

COL (Dr.) Anne Warwick graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a degree in Latin Literature. After obtaining a Master of Science degree in Physiology she received her Doctorate in Medicine and completed a residency in Pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation – all from the University of Minnesota. Later, she earned a Master of Public Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin and a Master of Strategic Studies at the U.S. Army War College, with a thesis proposing arguments for a joint medical command. She is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.

COL Warwick’s career combines military and civilian academic medicine. Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Warwick received a direct commission as Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. She served in the 5501st U.S. Army Hospital (Minnesota), the 114th Combat Support Hospital (Minnesota), the 4221st U.S. Army Hospital (Wisconsin), and was Division Surgeon for the 84th Division (Institutional Training), before being assigned as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Department of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She was mobilized in support of Operations Desert Storm, Noble Eagle, and Enduring Freedom. She was promoted to the rank of Colonel in July 2003. In 2010, to pursue a passion for medical education, she left civilian life and was appointed into the Regular Army of the United States and assigned to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where she is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Program Director of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship. She also holds the “A” Proficiency Designator from the Army Medical Department.

As clinician, educator and researcher, before joining the staff at what is now the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), COL Warwick practiced and taught pediatric hematology-oncology, first at Boston’s Floating Hospital for Infants and Children (Tufts University) and then at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (Medical College of Wisconsin), where she worked to establish multi-disciplinary clinics for survivors of childhood cancer and for children, adolescents, and young adults with bone and muscle cancers. She has served on committees for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Education and CME) and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (Publications and Practice). She is currently the Principal Investigator of the Uniformed Services Oncology Consortium (including WRNMMC) for the Children’s Oncology Group.
