Biography

Dr. Curtis is a graduate of Columbia University, New York City where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematical Sciences with a concentration in Physics in 2011. He attended Oregon State University as a post-baccalaureate to complete requirements for entry into medical school in 2011-2012 and worked briefly as a software engineer at the medical software company Epic in 2012-2013 while applying to medical school. He began his U.S. Army career after receiving the Army Health Professions Scholarship while attending medical school at The College of Physicians & Surgeon at Columbia University in New York City from 2013-2017. After completing medical school, he was assigned to Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) where he completed residency in Internal Medicine in 2020.

After medical training he was assigned to the 601st Medical Company, Area Support where he deployed twice. His first deployment in 2020 was as the Deputy Officer in Charge of the Role 1 Clinic in Headquarters, Resolute Support in Kabul, Afghanistan. In this role he served as the chief COVID/medical advisor to General Austin Miller. His second deployment in 2022 was as the lead medical officer in support of the 18th Airborne Corps as part of Operation Assure, Deter, and Reinforce at MK Airbase (MKAB) in Romania and subsequently ISB, Mielec, Poland. During this deployment he served as Acting Brigade Surgeon to the 16th Military Police Brigade at MKAB and Medical Officer in Charge of the Role 2 Clinic at ISB . When stationed CONUS he performed clinical duties as an academic general internist and hospitalist at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center. He is currently assigned to the Uniformed Services University as and Assistant Professor and the Director of the Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Renal Module in the pre-clerkship medical curriculum in addition to clinical and teaching duties in the internal medical clinic, inpatient service, and internal medicine residency program at Walter Reed Military Medical Center.

Dr. Curtis is a graduate of the AMEDD Officer Basic, Combat Casualty Care, and Sexual Assault Medical Forensics Examiner courses. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University. He has received the Wergeland Award for Compassionate Care (2020)and James J. Leonard Award for Excellence in Teaching Internal Medicine (2019).
