Biography

Lt Col Fox is from Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Air Force in 1999. Following completion of basic training and follow-on technical schools, he served as an airborne surveillance technician in the 961st Airborne Air Control Squadron at Kadena AB, Okinawa. In 2001, he was selected by the Pacific Air Forces for an enlisted commissioning scholarship through the Scholarship for Outstanding Airman to ROTC (SOAR) program. Afterwards, he returned to Pennsylvania to complete ROTC at the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2003, Lt Col Fox commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program and was accepted to the Uniformed Services University for medical school. On completion of medical school, Lt Col Fox completed a residency in general surgery at Wright State University. During this time, he was selected to be a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the Yale School of Medicine. During this 2-year program, he gained experience in healthcare policy in both the public and private sectors, as well as health services research. On completion of this program and general surgery residency, Lt Col Fox completed a fellowship in plastic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2017, Lt Col Fox was assigned to the 88th Surgical Operations Squadron at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio where he served as a staff plastic surgeon; an Associate Professor of Surgery at Wright State University; and accepted increasing leadership responsibility at the 88th Medical Group. He maintained a broad plastic surgery practice with an added focus on the reconstructive needs of patients impacted by cancer diagnoses. To facilitate this practice, he pioneered a novel military-civilian partnership at a regional cancer center thereby bringing Air Force capability into the community. As an Associate Professor of Surgery, he maintained a robust research program with over 80 peer reviewed publications which have been cited more than 1,800 times. Finally, Lt Col Fox assumed increasing leadership responsibility serving as the 88th Medical Group’s American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program’s (ACS NSQIP) surgeon champion; Plastic Surgery Element Leader; General Surgery Flight Commander; Deputy Surgical Operations Squadron Commander; and the Medical Group’s Director, Office of Military Civilian Partnerships.
