Biography

I have over a decade of experience in identifying and validating biomarkers for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). At the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, my research focuses on developing clinically translatable biomarkers for TBI through multidisciplinary collaboration with clinicians, molecular biologists, biostatisticians, and engineers. As principal investigator and co-investigator on DoD and NIH-funded projects, my work has contributed to the discovery of microRNA biomarkers capable of detecting mild and sub-concussive TBI, including sports-related and blast-related injuries. I also lead efforts to develop point-of-care diagnostic tools for TBI and explore novel therapeutic targets, including immunotherapeutic approaches and treatments for neuropathic pain. My current research investigates the potential of extracellular vesicles as non-invasive biomarkers and therapeutic tools for neurological disorders, including TBI and sports concussions. These studies aim to advance diagnostics and therapies for neurodegenerative and neurological conditions.
