Biography

A native of New Jersey, Commander Frye entered the Navy in June 2000 before starting medical school at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Frye completed medical school in 2004, and was an intern in pediatrics from 2004-2005 at the National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, MD. She chose to complete a 3 year General Medical Officer tour in Camp Lejeune, NC. While stationed with the Second Marine Logistics Group, she deployed as the regimental surgeon to Combat Logistics Regiment-25 in Taqaddam, Iraq from August 2005-March 2006. One year later, Dr. Frye volunteered to deploy as battalion surgeon to Combat Logistics Batallion-22 aboard the LSD-44, USS Gunston Hall, from July 2007-January 2008. In 2008, she returned to Bethesda, MD to complete her two years of pediatrics residency. In 2010, Commander Frye returned to Camp Lejeune, NC as a general pediatrician. After her first year, she became the department head of pediatrics at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune (NHCL) where, under her leadership, General Pediatrics became a NCQA-certified level II Medical Home. Dr. Frye developed and implemented a USUHS second year medical student general pediatrics clinical clerkship, which was the first at NHCL. In 2013, Dr. Frye was selected to complete a full-time out-service fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, which she completed in June 2016. Since coming to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Commander Frye collaborated with Naval Medical Center San Diego to standardize a resident/medical student curriculum and created a comprehensive reading list for the pediatric pulmonology rotations. She has created and implemented an asthma pathway at NMCP and NMCSD and soon at WRNMMC.

Commander Frye is double boarded in general pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology. She has four personal awards, two Navy Achievement medals and two Navy Commendation medals. Commander Frye has been married for 8 years and has two children, ages 6 and 4 years.
