Biography

CAPT Espiritu received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, and holds a Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Pacific and a Bachelors of Science from University of California, Los Angeles. His Navy career started in 1998 as a pharmacist at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He had subsequent Division Officer and Department Head tours at Branch Health Clinic Atsugi, Naval Hospital Yokosuka and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. After going back to medical school he completed a Transitional Internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in 2009 followed by a General Medical Officer tour at Branch Health Clinic Dam Neck. In 2010 he returned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth for residency in Anesthesiology. His first staff anesthesiologist tours were at Naval Hospital Okinawa and 3rd Medical Battalion where he held positions as both Pharmacy and Therapeutics Chair and Credentials Chair. In 2016 returned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where he completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine. In October 2017 he deployed on the USNS Comfort for Hurricane Maria Relief Operations. In 2018 he returned to Naval Hospital Okinawa where he served as both Department Head of Anesthesia and Chair of the Medical Executive Committee.CAPT Espiritu is an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4) and the Navy Achievement Medal (3).
