Biography

LTC Scott Grogan first joined the United States Army in 1996 as an enlisted reservist soldier in his home town of Cleveland, Ohio. He transitioned to the Army ROTC program at Ohio University where he graduated as the Distinguished Military Graduate in 2001 with a bachelor of sciences in Chemistry. He completed his osteopathic medical training at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 before moving to the Pacific Northwest for residency training at Madigan Army Medical Center. He completed his Family Medicine Residency in 2008 and took his first assignment at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany where he worked as both a staff physician and Warrior Transition Unit physician in his first year. He deployed to Baghdad Iraq with the 28th Combat Support Hospital out of Fort Bragg, NC in 2009 through 2010. Upon returning to Landstuhl he took a leading role in the hospital’s implementation of the Patient-centered Medical Home rollout, championing team-based documentation. He returned to Madigan Army Medical Center in 2011 and completed his Faculty Development Fellowship in 2013 while earning his Masters in Business Administration with honors from Pacific Lutheran University. He then moved to Augusta, Georgia and became a core teaching faculty and research director for the Eisenhower Army Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. In 2014 he deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan as Medical Director for detainee operations under the Combined-Joint Interagency Task Force 435. After his deployment he was promoted to Associate Residency Director and shortly thereafter returned to Madigan Army Medical Center a third time as the Residency Director for Family Medicine in 2016. Since returning to Madigan LTC Grogan has been a leading voice for the wide distribution of point-of-care ultrasound training across the Army and became a clinical ultrasound fellow in 2020. He is an avid runner, hiker, and backcountry snowboarder.
