Biography
COL Shad Deering, MD, is a board-certified perinatologist stationed at USUHS as the Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and an innovator and national leader in medical simulation. He founded and serves as the Chairman of the Central Simulation Committee which is responsible for oversight of medical simulation for graduate medical education at 10 Army training hospitals, training more than 50,000 providers a year. He deployed to Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service. Dr. Deering developed the Mobile Obstetric Emergencies Simulator (MOES) program that allows for training on actual labor and delivery units to improve patient safety which he implemented in all 54 hospitals in the DoD. He has delivered babies in 10 different States and a combat zone, holds two patents, has over 100 publications and two TED talks and has managed over 7 million dollars in grants and external funding.Representative Bibliography
