After high school, Dr. Lewis accepted the National Institutes of Health’s prestigious Minorities Accessing Research Careers (MARC) scholarship at Delaware State University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry.
Dr. Lewis earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his time at UNC, he worked in the laboratory of David G. Kaufman, MD, PhD studying the roles of the estrogen receptors alpha & beta in the development of type 1 endometrial cancer. Of note, Dr. Lewis was awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA).
Dr. Lewis then obtained a Medical Degree (MD) with Research Tract from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Following medical school, he completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Walter Reed National Military Medial Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
