Biography
Dr. Yuan has over 14 years of experience in DoD research and program management with educational expertise in biomedical engineering, with a broad spectrum of experience in biomaterial development, molecular biology, regenerative medicine, and infectious disease. His early DoD research career at the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, MD in 2010 focused on infectious diseases. In 2016, he received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas – San Antonio where he is currently part of the Adjunct Program Faculty. Post-graduation Dr. Yuan accepted a Research Staff Scientist position at Naval Medical Research Unit in San Antonio, TX focusing on developing novel electrospun nanomaterials for wound healing and tissue engineering applications. In 2019, he joined the 59th Medical Wing as the Senior Scientist at the Center for Advanced Molecular Detection (CAMD) located in San Antonio, Texas building vital funded research proposals focusing on various aspects of military health ranging from infectious disease to PTSD, exploring far-reaching areas of inquiry focusing on the psychosocial health of mothers in the military community. Dr. Yuan’s early success in building research programs transitioned into the lead scientist role for the Joint Integrative Clinical Medicine Directorate within the 59th Medical Wing Science & Technology Office in 2020, his initiatives leading to research efforts in unconventional exposures research, infectious disease diagnostics, and orthopedic innovations for requirement-based military research. Recently, Dr. Yuan transitioned Department of Radiology with Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences as an Assistant Professor as well as the Associate Director of Research for the Center for Biotechnology focusing on building a research and technology transition program aimed at delivering warfighter-focused needs. Additionally, he leads partnerships with private and academic entities to transition innovations to promptly meet current military needs.Career Highlights: Positions, Projects, Deployements, Awards and Additional Publications
